WELCOME TO BLAZING BLOCKS - A NEW GAME FOR YOUR NES!!!

I've been recently seeing people playing a very specific puzzle game on their phone on the train, the kind where you make lines by placing blocks on a grid. Upon seeing this, I thought it was a perfect fit for the NES - It could easily pass for a puzzle game made during that era... If it had some nice presentation and less annoying ads between sessions.

So since I thought it'd be fun, I decided to make just that: Blazing Blocks for the NES! This game contains:

  • Addicting puzzle gameplay!
  • Ming-boggling demo FX!
  • An attract mode!
  • Six different backgrounds to choose from (4 with animations!)
  • Both NTSC AND PAL compatibility!
  • Tubular Tunes by Ma2e!

The object of the game is simple: You have an array of 3 randomly generated blocks at your disposition. Place them all on the screen... If you can! Once you get rid of the 3 blocks to place, new ones appear - but the playfield gets more tightly-packed with every move. The only solution is to make horizontal or vertical lines to clear out blocks so you have just enough room to place that next block coming your way. If the task seems too daunting: Fret not! With three life-saving bonuses at your disposal, you can make sure to place that one block that gets you out of a pickle! Hours of fun guaranteed in Blazing Blocks, from FG Software!

Controls:

  • D-Pad: Select blocks/bonuses, move blocks around the playfield
  • A: Select block/bonus, place block/bonus on the screen.
  • B: Put block back
  • SELECT: Place block in the HOLD area for future use

Bonuses:

  • Bomb: Clears some blocks around the point of impact
  • Hammer: Hammers the blocks downwards, and is sure to get you a nice combo!
  • Cross-Out: Clears the column and row of where it is placed

Some pro-tips:

  • Try clearing many lines at once, and to get streaks! The bigger those combos get, the higher the score increase!
  • Choose your hold blocks strategically. Single blocks are valuable!
  • If you're in trouble, but have the hammer, make sure to get as many blocks in each column before using the bonus!

Very fun game. A 2 player mode would be awesome, but... not enough spaces for two squares of play area.. :P

Thank you!

Libnes?

What's Libnes?

If it's a library, then no, I did not use that. It's 100% made in Assembly.

If it's an emulator, then I cannot guarantee the game running on it. This game was extensively tested on many hardware revisions without issue, but is known to fail on several older, less quality emulators. Please use MESEN if you want to play on an emulator. If you want support in a specific emulator, contact said emulator's developers instead :)

Yes, it's a  C library...
ok, asm
btw, thx 4 da game... it's funy

Be cool to do a manual for this.

I'll likely make one for the physical release. Currently waiting for cover art and being a bit lazy otherwise haha

Oh physical? Through Kickstarter?

Oh no I'm gonna try and build my own carts on this one - First a Famicom version (since I live in Japan) and then an international version.

No need for KS as I can fund it with my savings :)

Just bought this game, and it’s such a beautiful package! I love the cosmetics of the game, including the music and visuals configuration, plus that magical cylinder-roll effect that I have never before seen on an NES.

I am playing this game on an Everdrive on an original NTSC NES, and it plays perfectly. I have spent many game sessions trying to get a high score. Lots of puzzling fun!

Glad to hear you're enjoying the game! Post some scores :D
