A few years ago, after finishing Blazing Blocks and around the time I was starting to get into PC Engine dev, I was toying around with a few ideas on the NES still. But as you may know, Special Ninja Squad happened, and that NES project was left in a drawer, unfinished.

Fast forward to early 2026, where I rediscovered the project in an old folder. To my surprise, the whole thing was surprisingly playable, so I decided to fix a few bugs and release a prototype/demo version for y'all to enjoy!

As I was doing the fixes, you might recall that I had posted some mecha headpieces on social media: Well, that was a little tease for this project!

Augmented Combat Unit EXO

Take control of the latest model of EXO, the galaxy's strongest battle suit, in this flip-screen NES Metroidvania

Of course, cutscenes included!

Your commander, on duty on the remote Delta Base, was caught up in a surprise attack of Neo-Babylonian forces, and is being held hostage by the enemy!

It is your mission to not only foil Neo-Babylon's plan of galaxy domination, but also to recover the Earth Federation's secret project that will enable them to win the Cosmic War

Can you defeat the many deadly foes along the way?

 Controls

 - Use the D-Pad to move around

 - Use A to jump

 - Use B to shoot

 - Use START to bring up the map (Once it is acquired)

 - Use SELECT to swap weapons as you acquire new ones

This is an old project I rescued off my abandoned project pile. It is a bit rough around the edges, but fully playable. I hope you don't mind too much :P

 How to Play

Either use an NES emulator (as always, MESEN comes highly recommended), or put it on a flashcart/ROM board of your choice, and run it on original NES/Famicom hardware.
